Cameron Highlands Mossy Forest Hike
A short raised boardwalk takes you through moss-covered montane forest near the top of Gunung Brinchang, at about 2,000 m, with pitcher plants and orchids along the way. It is often cool and misty.

The route
Mossy Forest boardwalk (Taman Eko Rimba Mossy Forest) near the summit of Gunung Brinchang.
The forest is reached from Brinchang town by a steep, narrow road up Gunung Brinchang. A four-wheel drive is recommended, and most visitors go with a local tour.
When to go
Closed since about October 2025 after landslide and heavy-rain damage, and still closed in March 2026 with no reopening date announced in the sources I found; check with the Pahang Forestry Department before you travel.
Permits and fees
Entry costs RM30 for non-citizen adults and RM15 for children aged 3-12 (RM10 for Malaysian adults), according to the Forestry Department. When open, the site runs from 8am to 5pm daily.
Before you go
- Bring a waterproof and warm layers: temperatures sit around 10-20°C and fog is common.
- Wear sturdy shoes.
- Stay on the boardwalk and marked paths; the moss forest is fragile.
What to bring
- Shoes with grip that you have already worn in
- At least 1.5 litres of water
- Food you will actually want to eat
- A warm or waterproof layer
- The route, saved offline
- Sun cream and a hat
Getting ready for it
If your longest walk lately is under two hours, do a few longer walks first, ideally with some climbing and the pack you will carry.
Step-ups and lunges twice a week make the descents much easier on your knees.
Staying safe
- Landslides have closed the site and its access road; do not try to get round closure barriers.
- Fog cuts visibility, so avoid going late in the day.
- Tell someone your route and when you expect to be back.
- Turn around if the weather turns or the footing gets sketchy. The trail will still be there.
