The route

Sentier La Roche, La Diable sector, Parc national du Mont-Tremblant.

The trail starts at the Discovery Centre in the La Diable sector of Parc national du Mont-Tremblant.

When to go

The hiking season runs from mid-May to the first snowfall.

Permits and fees

Each visitor needs a Sépaq daily access right or an annual card. Numbers are capped each day, so Sépaq recommends buying online, up to 30 days ahead, and you can be turned away from a sector or trail when car parks are full.

Before you go

  • Dogs on a lead are allowed on La Roche from 1 May to 31 October; dogs are not allowed anywhere in the park from 1 November to 30 April.
  • The La Roche, La Coulée and La Corniche combination is 8.2 km and takes about 2 hours 45 minutes.
  • Sépaq notes that trail openings can change without notice during the spring thaw.

What to bring

  • Shoes with grip that you have already worn in
  • At least 1.5 litres of water
  • Food you will actually want to eat
  • A warm or waterproof layer
  • The route, saved offline
  • Sun cream and a hat

Getting ready for it

If your longest walk lately is under two hours, do a few longer walks first, ideally with some climbing and the pack you will carry.

Step-ups and lunges twice a week make the descents much easier on your knees.

Staying safe

  • Tell someone your route and when you expect to be back.
  • Turn around if the weather turns or the footing gets sketchy. The trail will still be there.
