The route
Morell to St. Peters (km 219 to km 231).
Start from the trail parking in Morell (on St. Peters Road, Route 2, or on Red Head Road) and finish at the St. Peters Visitor Information Centre on Route 2. Confederation Trail Bike Rental Adventures in St. Peters Bay rents bikes and e-bikes from 1 June to 30 September.
When to go
The trail is non-motorised for most of the year, but the PEI Snowmobile Association leases it from 1 December to 31 March, so ride it between spring and late autumn.
Before you go
- Kilometre posts count from 0 at Tignish to 273 at Elmira, so you can track your progress: Morell is km 219 and St. Peters km 231.
- For a longer day, start at Mount Stewart (km 204) and add 15 km each way along the Hillsborough River side of the trail.
- Benches, picnic shelters and lookouts line the trail, and St. Peters Landing at km 231 has shops for a break before you turn round.
What to bring
- Helmet
- Spare tube, tyre levers and a pump
- Water and snacks
- Front and rear lights
- A layer for descents and stops
Getting ready for it
Time in the saddle matters more than speed.
If you have not ridden for a while, do two or three rides of an hour or two first so your legs and your seat are used to it.
Staying safe
- Wear bright clothing and use lights wherever there is traffic.
- Check your brakes and tyres before you leave.
