Check before you go: The east-shore road and greenway between La Glière and Angon are closed from 14 September to 18 December 2026 for rockfall works, so the full loop can't be ridden until then. (as of September 30, 2026)

The route

Tour du lac d'Annecy by bike (west-shore greenway and east-shore véloroute).

Most people start in Annecy, where a link path joins the town centre to the greenway. Shops around the lake hire e-bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, tandems and children's bikes.

Before you go

  • The west-shore greenway climbs only about 20 m in 33 km, so it suits families who want an out-and-back ride.
  • Expect the only real climb on the east shore, around 100 m near Talloires-Montmin.
  • Pedestrians use the verges of the greenway; adapt your speed and leave room for rollerbladers and slower riders.
  • During the 2026 works, free lake shuttle boats run between Doussard, Talloires and Annecy.

What to bring

  • Helmet
  • Spare tube, tyre levers and a pump
  • Water and snacks
  • Front and rear lights
  • A layer for descents and stops

Getting ready for it

Time in the saddle matters more than speed.

If you have not ridden for a while, do two or three rides of an hour or two first so your legs and your seat are used to it.

Staying safe

  • From 14 September to 18 December 2026 the RD909A road and the greenway between La Glière and Angon in Talloires-Montmin are closed day and night for rockfall works, so the full loop cannot be ridden.
  • Parts of the east shore run through villages on roads shared with cars.
  • Wear bright clothing and use lights wherever there is traffic.
  • Check your brakes and tyres before you leave.
