Mallorca Serra de Tramuntana Ride
You ride the 13 km road that engineer Antonio Parietti opened in 1933 down to the cove of Sa Calobra, through tight hairpins and the 270-degree spiral bridge known as the Nus de sa Corbata (the tie knot), then climb back to Coll dels Reis at 682 m. At the bottom, the Torrent de Pareis canyon meets the sea.

- Where
- Mallorca, Spain
- Distance
- 26 km there and back (13 km each way)
The route
Sa Calobra road (Coll dels Reis), down to the cove and back.
The single road into Sa Calobra is a dead end, so you ride down and climb back out the same way. In the tourist season, boats from Port de Sóller also serve Sa Calobra.
Before you go
- Save energy on the way down; the only way out is the climb back to Coll dels Reis.
- Sa Calobra has restaurants at the port for a break before the climb.
- The Torrent de Pareis canyon walk starts from the cove if you want to stretch your legs.
What to bring
- Helmet
- Spare tube, tyre levers and a pump
- Water and snacks
- Front and rear lights
- A layer for descents and stops
Getting ready for it
Time in the saddle matters more than speed.
If you have not ridden for a while, do two or three rides of an hour or two first so your legs and your seat are used to it.
Staying safe
- Coach tours use the same narrow, twisting road, so expect large vehicles on the hairpins.
- Wear bright clothing and use lights wherever there is traffic.
- Check your brakes and tyres before you leave.
